Last Day of Classes

The girls spent the semester working hard on learning to play the recorder.

Working on Latchook kits and also doing a diorama.

We had a potluck luncheon and the girls wanted to play a song.

Recorder and Latch Hook

Well we have been meeting now for about 6 weeks. I finally managed to remember to catch some pictures in class.

The girls are moving along pretty well with the recorder. We have learned B, A, and G and most have learned to play 2 songs. Hot Cross Buns, and Merrily We Roll Along.

Last week I had 5 girls playing Hot Cross Buns in unison. I was so proud! Truthfully, If I did not accomplish anything else this semester, I felt I had arrived! (Since this is no easy task.)

We were able to get 3 in unison, playing the song, Merrily We Roll Along. But when we tried 5 together we had problems. So we will keep working on that one. (They are supposed to practice another song this week. (Au Claire De Lune.)

They are coming along on their latch hook kits, as we have some time in class while I am working individually with some on the recorder.

Fall Club starts August 12

Just a reminder that we only have a few weeks left and our God's Girls club will resume.

Please make sure your daughter has a recorder and a latch hook kit. (8X8) is fine.

They will need them on the first day of class.

The recorders are available at WalMart. They had some in the toy section by the music stuff.

They had a cleaning kit and book with them. (First Act I think.)

I'm not sure if WalMart has any latch hook kits. But I know Hobby Lobby does.

Mother Daughter Summer Tea/Luncheon

Today we had our Summer Mother Daughter Tea/Luncheon. It was a really special time to be able to get together and share. We had excellent food and fellowship. The girls had fun dressing up too.

On the menu was Orange Marmalade Salad and dressing, Chicken Salad and Croissants, vanilla wafers with whipped cream and bananas and strawberries, ham sandwiches, PB and J sandwiches shaped like hearts, chocolate chip cookies, cupcakes, a fruit tray and meringue cookies. To drink we had strawberry pink lemonade and orange iced tea.

We ate on fine china and drank from crystal cups. (Well it is about time we used them.)

Fall Semester Plans

Tomorrow is registration for our fall semester. Here are the plans our club has for the fall.

I will be looking over things this summer and also hope to include one on a character trait.

There will be a $3.00 fee due at registration. Also over the summer I need each girl to

get a recorder (1st Act or another from a music store is fine.)

Absolutely NO Dollar store flutophones, please!

They also need to purchase a small latch hook kit.

I prefer for it to be a small one 12X12 or smaller-

so they can accomplish it in one semester.

We also have some fun upcoming summer events for those that wish to participate.

Croquet

We have been working on our Croquet badge the past several weeks. We are having fun learning the game. the only issue we have had is that an hour is not long enough to complete the game. So the first person to make it to the other stake wins.

Cleaning Badge

For the past month our God's Girls have been doing a service

project for our Co-Op. They have cleaned the fellowship hall

every week after lunch. They have such great attitudes about

wanting to serve. I am really proud of them. Duties included wiping

tables, cleaning the kitchen, wiping down appliances, cleaning inside

microwaves, sweeping, etc.

After cleaning, we had time for some jump rope.

We will be working on this badge when we return from

Spring Break. But I wanted to go ahead and get

the girls started a little on it.

We also played indoor twister hop scotch.

(Since it was raining.)

We hope to be out doors when we return after

Spring Break.

Cleaning Badge

For the next month we will be working on earning our Cleaning Badge.

I used the Cleaning Badge requirements from the younger girls handbook

and am combining that with what we are doing at Co-Op as a service project.

Each week we will clean the fellowship hall and make sure the

bathroom trash has been taken care of.

We have a list posted at Co-Op as to what is required by the cleaning crew.

The girls really worked well with great attitudes today! I was very proud of them!

Over the next few weeks at home they will also be required to keep their rooms cleaned.

Including dusting, vacuuming, keeping drawers neat etc.

They are also to help clean the living room for 4 weeks.

I think the girls will really learn alot with this badge and will gain

confidence and a feeling of satisfaction with a job well done.

Week 2

This week we continued to work on our Foreign Language badge. (Spanish)

We reviewed several of the conversational words we are learning from last week.

I read a book called the Runaway Tortilla.

We also drew and colored a picture of a Mexican Boy with a sombrero.

1st day of class

Today was our first day back in our Keepers Club. We introduced 3 of the new girls.

Since Foreign Language is our first badge we are working on, we went over some things about Mexico and the Spanish Language.

We learned that Mexico and Spain predominantly speak Spanish. We learned where Mexico is on the map. We learned to count to 10 in Spanish and did a turkey coloring page. It also listed the colors in Spanish.

We also went over some common conversational terms:

Your Welcome - de nada

goodbye -adios

I shared with them, many things I had seen and observed when I lived in Mexico as a Missionary. We discussed the predominant religion (Catholic) and the difference between the Prodestant faith. We prayed for the people of Mexico and the missionaries that are serving there.

Winter, Spring Semester 2010

This Thursday we begin our God's Girls club new semester. I am really excited about this semester. We have some fun badges lined up. We are also hoping for a Spring Mother Daughter Tea Party.

This semester we will be working on these badges:

Foreign Language -Spanish

Cleaning -For this badge we will be working at home helping our mothers, taking responsibility for our own rooms. Also as a service project for our Co-op, we will clean the fellowship hall after lunch for one month.

Hopefully if the weather cooperates we will be able to take some time to do some outdoor fun activities.

Awards Presentation

We had a Performance night at our Homeschool co-op. Here we awarded the girls with the badges they earned this semester. They earned badges for coloring, art, VBS and hiking.

Our Completed Art Books

Here is what the completed art book looked like. We pasted each thing we did onto large construction paper and decorated the fronts. I simply bound them together with yarn.

At the back of the book it has their name, and the semester and year we completed it.

It should make for a great keepsake!

Learning about perspective

This week we learned about perspective. I drew a snowman facing the front. Then I drew another snowman and moved the buttons over to the left. Then I moved his eyes, mouth and hands and offset them so he would look like he was turned. (In my example I had him skiing down a mountain.)

Then I had the girls do the same thing. First they drew a front facing snowman, then for their second drawing they were to make their snoman be turned a little. (To show how it would look from another perspective.)

We also looked at objects in the class room from different angles, straight on, on the side, from above etc. We could all see how each perspective made us see something different.

Art books

The main curriculum I used for our art lessons can be found at KinderArt. (The lessons are online and are free.) Also don't let the word Kinder fool you. This is not about Kindergartners', but really sutiable for elementary aged children. Some of the lessons I used as directed. Some lessons I just added in, like the crayon rubbings. Some I tweaked to fit supplies I had, or things I wanted to accomplish.

I also tried to include children's literature when possible. One book I really love is called
"The Crayon Box that talked." It is a great story about friendship and acceptance. Another book
we used was called "I am a Rainbow" by Dolly Parton. This book related colors to moods and feelings.

I used other books to show the difference in a warm colored page, vs. a cool colored page.
"Apples to Oregon" is a good book for this. I chose it because it happened to be on my shelf and September was a good time to use it.

October Classes

We spent time in October learning about textures. Warm and Cool colors. Drawing pictures in each category. We also did some crayon rubbings of leaves. They turned out great I have got to get some pictures posted.

We are combining our semester work into a book that we will tie with yarn. On performance night, we will present the girls badges, and then they can show off their art portfolios and take them home.

History of art and color mixing.

This week we went over primary colors again. We traced our handprints and

colored them in primary colors.

We discussed the history of art and glued the pages about art history onto construction paper.

So we can include it in our portfolios.

We used 3 different colors and put them on paper, then folded the paper in half

to mix them and create another secondary color.

Week 2 Color Theory

Today we learned about primary and secondary colors. We used this edible color wheel lesson plan. (I am so bummed that I did not manage to get any photos of this.) Now we only did this for 6 colors. So we mixed equal amounts of blue and yellow to make green. (We did not do another shad of green.) I just wanted the girls to understand that primary colors are not made by mixing, but secondary colors are.

We had alot of fun mixing colors and then the girls got to eat their color creations.
I also let each one add a little white to any color they chose, to show how it made the color lighter. Then I mixed blue, red and yellow together and asked what color they thought it would become. One guessed brown and she was right.

Before we began, I gave each girl an apron-so we can save their shirts.
I put their names on them and take them up each week. That way I make sure they come back to class. (And when they need washing, I can take care of that too.)

We also drew in the color wheel on our paper.

We did a short devotion on humility.

First Day of Fall Semester 2009

Today was our first day back for our God's Girls Club. This semester the focus will be on art. We will be learning about art in general. Colors, textures, collages, mosiacs, etc.

Today we shared a devotion about friendship. Since that is one of the main themes I want to keep in the midst of our club. Friendship among girls, a true caring spirit.
We have a great group of girls and I am excited about sharing the semester with them. I believe that God will grow the artistic talents of these young ladies for His glory.

Today we handed out the club t-shirts, and made the cover for our art book. We will compile our work each week and at the end of the semester we will have some great work to show off.
